CELC ActivitiesAmicus Briefs in Critical Cases When significant adverse decisions come down from the courts of appeal, or when the California Supreme Court agrees to hear an important case, CELC takes action. Our amicus briefs have helped to shape the law in important areas. We retain the finest management labor law firms in California to draft our briefs. Because such briefs are distributed to all our members, these outstanding law firms prepare these briefs on a flat-fee basis which is far less than the normal hourly rate. Legislative Activity CELC retains in Sacramento Michael Belote of California Advocates, Inc. as Legislative Counsel. Our Legislative Counsel not only works with the Legislature and the Governor's Office with respect to legislation we oppose, but works to develop legislation which is favorable to employers. CELC over the past two decades has played a major role in defeating anti-employer legislation. Examples of defeated legislation include wrongful discharge legislation and comparable worth legislation. Educational Activities CELC has an annual two-day membership meeting which is open only to members and their invited guests. This membership meeting attracts as speakers some of the finest labor lawyers and employment professionals. CELC member companies can send an unlimited number of representatives to this meeting. These programs are open to member companies only. CELC also has periodic "issues briefings" and regular mailings to the membership bringing members up to date on key developments. 2010 Calendar of EventsQuarterly Briefing/Board Meeting
